Potty Week!!!

Last Monday marked the beginning of "Potty Week" at our house. With a couple weeks of anticipation and excitement leading up to it, Christopher was counting down the days until he would give up the pull-ups and start using the potty. He hopped out of bed on Monday morning asking to start!

We have had several attempts in the past that ended in frustration and disappointment because he just wasn't "on the same page" as we were, but when we saw how much his heart was invested in it this time, we knew it would be much more successful. We were right!

I bought him the "Wee-Minder" Potty Watch, DVD and Book set. The little Kangaroo watch was set to go off every hour (you can also set it to 2 or 2.5 hour increments). The book and DVD were a huge hit for him and set him off on the right foot. I put together a reward box of dollar store items to give him each evening and morning he stayed dry... I figured the cost of the items would be offset by the box of pull-ups I wouldn't have to buy this month if everything went as planned.

I also decided to have Christopher go the whole week without pants (or underpants) because I heard so many people who found that to be their key to success. I did notice that the times I "gave in" and gave him underpants were mainly the times he had his accidents... the only other "accident" he had unfortunately happened on Wednesday morning when he was standing on a chair reaching into the pantry for a box of cereal (UGH... I wished he had pants on that time!) After cleaning out the pantry and throwing away all contaminated foods, I called Jimmy very frustrated. His wonderful encouragement pulled me through the rest of the day. I'm so glad I didn't let that derail us, because beginning on Thursday, Christopher was 100% dry both day and night... and still is five days later!

This morning I noticed that the Wee-Minder watch was not on Christopher's wrist and I asked him where it was. He proudly told me that he didn't need it anymore and that he gave it to Levi. When I looked over and saw that little red watch fastened to Levi's tiny wrist I couldn't help but be proud of Christopher... and of myself... that we finally did it!
